The problem is, of course, to find the man that has enough of “all the things you want in a man” to satisfy you.

There are lots of eligible men available, and with just a little bit of intelligence, there’s no honest reason why any woman wanting a man cannot find the man of her choice. The thing is, as mentioned already - you’ve got to know what kind of man you want, and where you’ll most likely find him - and then, reach for him.

In this complex world that we live in, one of the most complex things we have to deal with is ourselves and our relationships with others. In an ideal world, this should be simple, but we do not live in an ideal world, and the issue of relationships is anything but simple.

When we are born, we have a relationship with our parents. They teach us, they scold us, and they love us. But that point in our lives is the very last point in time when relationships will ever be even close to be simple.

In our teen years, the aspect of the importance of relationships goes right off the scale, surpassing almost everything else. Relationships are critical to us at that point. We are super conscious of what we wear, who we go out with, what our peers think of us, and if television and billboard advertising is to be believed, it is also of critical importance to our relationships and our future lot in life as to what brand of soda we drink and the brand of sneakers we wear.

Statistics show that marriages are ending at an alarming rate and that the length of the average marriage is now under seven years. Why are today’s marriages not working? Why are relationships so stressful, difficult and unsatisfying for so many people? I believe it’s due to bad match-ups. If you marry someone with whom you are not well suited, the road to happiness is a very hard one.

So what can you do to turn this unhappiness around? The answer is to pay attention when choosing your life partner. Love and physical attraction are never enough. A strong relationship needs compatibility and commitment from both partners. Compatibly is more than just having the same interests, likes and dislikes; it’s wanting the same things out of life and having the same belief systems. Finding a partner whom you love and with whom you are compatible is the prescription for a healthy, lasting relationship.

Robert, last week we printed your letter about your in-laws. Your wife’s parents are wealthy people who bought and sold restaurants, drove luxury automobiles, and owned ocean-front properties. Though they gave you and your wife small gifts, you struggled to put yourselves through college, one of you working as the other one studied.

Each week they called to brag about how much money they were making. At length, ready to retire, they offered to sell you their last restaurant. They insisted you sell your home for the down payment, and they structured the deal to make themselves a large profit. Then they welched on the agreement, devastating you emotionally and financially.
